MIDDE SCHOOL SPORTS PROGRAM POLICIES
Team Selection - Tryouts (All-Star Only)
Before the beginning of each season there will be a 1 or 2 day tryout period for team selection. Final roster selection is the responsibility of the head coach, in conjunction with the assistant coach of the given program. The coach should provide, either in writing or verbally the following information to those trying out:
- Extent of the tryout period
- Criteria used to select the team
- Practice/jamboree commitment, if selected.
Attendance Policy
Once a student has been selected to a sports team he/she is committing herself/himself to attend all practices and competitions for the entirety of the season. Practices dates, practice times, and competitions are all published at the beginning of the school year to help in the planning process.
Students that attend school are expected to attend practice. If a student has an injury or doctor's excused sickness and is unable to participate, they are still required to attend practice to observe that days instruction.

Commitment Policy (Quitting)
One of the main goals of the MS Sports program is to help the student-athlete understand what it means to commit to a team and the benefits of being committed. If a student is selected to be a part of an athletic team, they are expected to remain on the team for the entirety of the season. Students will have one week from the final tryout date or submission of required forms (POA, Code of Conduct), whichever comes first, to decide if they wish to continue with a sport and it not be considered quitting.
Quitting an athletic team will result in an inability to play on any YISS middle school sports team for the remainder of the current school year. The athletic director should be informed of any athlete who does quit. A meeting will take place between the athlete and athletic director to ensure the student-athlete is fully informed and the circumstances are made clear. Additional exceptions to this rule are made on a case by case basis.

All-Star Jamborees
Each season one of the jamborees will be dedicated to All-Star team competition. These teams are selected by the coaches and will compete in either a normal jamboree format or tournament format depending on the hosting school. Additional regulation games/matches might also be scheduled in addition to All-Star Jamboree but are not guaranteed. This allows for additional competitive opportunities and a glimpse into high school athletics.
UNIFORM Policy
Students participating in soccer, cross country, volleyball, and basketball will be issued a uniform for use at competitions. These uniforms are the property of YISS and may not be given to any athlete. These uniforms should be treated appropriately and with respect. Any uniform that is lost or damaged by the student outside of the sport is the responsibility of the student and he/she will be asked to pay for the replacement of that uniform.
Students participating in swimming will require a swimsuit, goggles, and a swim cap. (YISS swim uniforms are preferred and available through the Aquatics Department to be ordered in September.)

If your child wears glasses, but is unable to wear contacts, sport safety goggles will be required of students that participate in basketball, soccer, and volleyball. This is for your child’s safety and will be strictly enforced.

inclement Weather Policy
YISS MS Sports have traditionally followed the following set of guidelines regarding inclement weather.
- Outdoor Practices/Jamborees will be played rain or shine.
- If lightning is spotted or reported in the area students are to go to shelter for a minimum of 30 minutes after the last sighting.
- If severe weather is forecasted for after school the Athletic Director and Middle School Administration will decide if practice will continue or be cancelled and will relay that decision by 12:00pm (noon) via email, the MS Sports Website (www.yissmssports.weebly.com), and the MS Athletics Schoology.
